Alignment Health Plan earns overall 4.5 out of 5-star rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in 2020 [1]
ORANGE, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2019) – Alignment Health Plan, a Medicare Advantage plan from Alignment Healthcare, is one of only four in California to be named a
Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage 2020 by U.S. News & World Report. The annual ranking analyzes insurance companies’ Medicare Advantage plan offerings based on the upcoming year’s star ratings from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
A Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage is defined by
U.S. News & World Report as a company whose plans all received at least three out of five stars by CMS and whose plans have an average rating of 4.5 or more stars within a state. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating. Alignment Health Plan has received an
overall 4.5-star rating from CMS in 2020, which includes a 5- out of 5-star summary rating for Part D prescription drug plan services and a 4-star summary rating for Part C health plan services.

To calculate its 2020 Best Insurance Companies for Medicare Advantage,
U.S. News & World Report used data from the CMS
Medicare Compare tool, including the CMS star rating of each Medicare Advantage plan offered in 2020. The two main types of CMS star ratings are the Overall Star Rating that combines all the plan’s scores and the Summary Star Rating that focuses on the plan’s medical or prescription drug services. For an insurance company to be eligible for
U.S. News & World Report's Best Insurance Companies for Medicare Advantage list, all Medicare Advantage plans offered by the insurance company in that state had to be rated overall with at least three out of five stars by CMS.
U.S. News then averaged the CMS star ratings for each of the eligible companies’ plans and those companies with an average overall rating of 4.5 or more stars earned recognition as a Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage.
Medicare’s annual election period starts on Oct. 15 and ends Dec. 7, 2019. During this time, Medicare-eligible individuals can enroll in a 2020-year plan. To learn more about Alignment’s 2020 plan offerings, visit
