Melanie Bella, inaugural director of the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), has been tapped to drive Alignment Healthcare's strategy of better care and lower costs for Medicare-eligible beneficiaries.
As senior vice president of policy and strategy at Alignment, Bella will direct the company’s strategy involving individuals who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid while ensuring it is well-positioned in the regulatory and policy arenas.
“My career has been dedicated to developing high-quality and cost-effective models of care, especially for complex populations,” Bella said. “Alignment Healthcare is growing exponentially, with access to real-time clinical data that informs and improves the care of its members. Bella joins a team of health care pioneers and innovators that founder John Kao has assembled to revolutionize health care delivery in the United States. Headquartered in California, the population health management company has implemented a proprietary tech-driven clinical model designed to provide concierge-level care to seniors at dramatically lower costs.

At CMS, Bella established an office charged with integrating benefits for people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. Prior to CMS, she served as senior vice president for policy and operations at the national nonprofit Center for Health Care Strategies. In that role, she led efforts to integrate care for complex populations and directed a unique leadership training institute for state Medicaid leaders. Bella earned her master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree from DePaul University.
