John Kao to be honored for his years of commitment to improve senior patient care

ORANGE, Calif. (July 6, 2016) – John Kao, president and CEO of Alignment Healthcare, a population health management company that focuses on improving the health and wellness of seniors, will be honored with the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award by SeniorServ, an Anaheim-based organization that is the largest Meals on Wheels and senior nutrition provider in Orange County.

At SeniorServ’ s signature event, the Senior Care Hero Awards slated for Oct. 15, 2016, Kao will be recognized for his more than three decades of work to improve the health and wellness of people across the nation.

“We’re honored to recognize John Kao with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Senior Care Hero Awards,” said SeniorServ CEO Holly Hagler. “Through his leadership roles at Alignment Healthcare and CareMore, John has made significant contributions to improving the health and well-being of older adults in our community.”

This year’s Senior Hero Award function, to be held at the City National Grove of Anaheim, will feature host Emmy-award winning broadcaster Patrice King Brown. Last year's event drew 700 guests and recognized more than 80 outstanding senior care industry and community advocates.

This year marks the sixth anniversary of the Senior Care Hero Awards, the largest senior care recognition program in the country that acknowledges those who make a difference in the senior care field. All proceeds from the event will benefit SeniorServ's Meals on Wheels program and other supportive services for at-risk seniors in Orange County.

“John has dedicated the bulk of his career to improving the way health care is delivered in this country, and his passion for improving the lives of the elderly, particularly the frail elderly, is without reproach,” said Joseph Konowiecki, chairman of the Board of Directors of Alignment Healthcare. “He is a pioneer in the national model of medical care for seniors that put patients first and foremost in the minds of caregivers and those committed to helping the elderly remain healthy, active and independent in their homes. This hallmark award from SeniorServ so accurately reflects his life’s mission.”

Prior to founding Alignment Healthcare in 2013, Kao served as the president of CareMore, a health plan and health care delivery system that focuses on serving the health care needs of more than 80,000 seniors in California, Nevada and Arizona.

A South Orange County resident, Kao is committed to helping a variety of local community non-profit organizations and recently served the last two years as chairman of the Board of Elders at Mariners Church in Irvine, CA. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University and his MBA from the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, where he was honored as a Venture Capital Fellow.
