Melanie Bella is on the advisory board of Alignment Healthcare, an integrated health services company serving the Medicare population. Ms. Bella previously served as Alignment’s senior vice president of policy and strategy.
Prior to her joining the Alignment Healthcare family, Ms. Bella served as the inaugural director of the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from 2010 to 2015. The office was created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to integrate benefits for people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid and improve coordination between the federal government and states for their care.
Before CMS, Ms. Bella was the senior vice president for policy and operations at the Center for Health Care Strategies, a national nonprofit where she led efforts to integrate care for populations with complex care needs. She directed a unique leadership training institute for state Medicaid leaders to transform their programs into national models for high-quality, cost effective care. Ms. Bella also served as Medicaid director for the state of Indiana from 2001 through 2005.
She earned a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University.
